One Min Read: It Can Be Lonely at the Top!

Being a leader is difficult. You are pulled in numerous directions with a substantial amount of pressure placed on you. You feel overwhelmed. You want to be there for everyone and inspire them. Your leadership asks you to create a vision and strategy that will align with the vision for the organization. Your vision is expected to create excitement and inspiration across a variety of personalities and job functions. Your people often do not agree with your approach, and let you know. You feel frustrated with them and sometimes question yourself which affects your confidence and you wonder if you are right for the position. Your intention is to support your people, but sometimes your approach sucks, and your frustration comes out in your tone of voice. Your people respond negatively and shut down. The stress you feel keeps you up at night. You need to create a safe culture in which all your people feel comfortable to communicate openly, but often feel you are losing ground yourself. You begin to take your frustration home which creates stress for your family. You face all these expectations and your leadership expects you to make a profit. Wow!

It is important that you find support either in your organization or with a mentor. There are many groups that can help support you. Another option is to get the support of a coach. A trusted advisor whose job is to support you, but also tell you the truth. Skill building is best in a confidential setting which helps you to be honest with yourself and grow.

What people are saying.
Beth Sears provided her time and expertise to assist us in resolving a difficult and emotionally charged situation regarding our next work season in Africa … Beth was able first to empower us to honor the fact that there was major conflict in our thinking and helped us define a process to deal with the differing opinions. … In our final meeting, it was amazing to see the most entrenched and angry member of the group changed their demeanor. We came to a fine resolution and are a stronger body because of the experience. Beth deserves much credit for guiding and encouraging us and giving us the tools to meet our challenges. I recommend her work without hesitation.
