Right People Right Position

When I say get the right people in the right position, I am not talking about skill sets. All too often someone with a great resume is hired only to bring someone on who create chaos in the workplace. By the right person, I mean someone who fits into the culture of the organization. According to Forbes, this means creating a comprehensive picture of what you want from all team members,” to determine who will be a true fit in your organization. A good resume gets a person in the door, but it is attitude and interpersonal skills that shows them the door!

A good way to bring the right people in is to involve current employees in the hiring process. One of my best clients involves union leaders in the interviewing process and according to the union reps, it has really opened their eyes. If your company has a Vision, mission, and values statement make sure you hire people whose values align with the company. Take time to hire the right person and everyone benefits.

Beth Sears provided her time and expertise to assist us in resolving a difficult and emotionally charged situation regarding our next work season in Africa … Beth was able first to empower us to honor the fact that there was major conflict in our thinking and helped us define a process to deal with the differing opinions. … In our final meeting, it was amazing to see the most entrenched and angry member of the group changed their demeanor. We came to a fine resolution and are a stronger body because of the experience. Beth deserves much credit for guiding and encouraging us and giving us the tools to meet our challenges. I recommend her work without hesitation.
