Gratitude: What Does It Look and Feel Like? 

Thank you” is always appreciated and often overlooked in the workplace, but is there a way to step it up a notch? Instead of just saying “Nice job” to a co-worker, why not help them understand what made their contribution exceptional? 

For example, instead of a simple “Good job,” you might say, “I really appreciate how you pitched in to help others finish their tasks. It made a big difference.” By being specific, you help them see the real impact of their actions. 

Let’s say Sally was feeling overwhelmed last week, and you noticed her stress. Normally, she declines help, but this time you said, “How about I input that data so you can get both reports done on time?” She accepted, found it incredibly helpful, and even mentioned how much it reduced her stress. 

How can you express gratitude in a meaningful, authentic way?
